I am very fortunate to be the Instructor of our ‘Student of the Month’, Jamie. Jamie is completing our Certified Event Planning Course and is employed as an Event Center Manager. Jamie consistently brings me professional and creative work, but what I most admire about Jamie is that although she already has the dream job I know many of you would also enjoy, she wants to learn more.
Regardless of what you do and what level you are at, there is always something more to learn and as Jamie points out, our industry, like many is impacted by rapidly changing technology. We recognize this in our courses and we are continuously updating them with information and the latest trends (like the Pantone Fall 2013 Fashion Report) so that what we are always teaching what is relevant to what is happening in the industry. We can do this because we offer the courses online and because we immerse ourselves in the industry.
Earlier this year Kylie (WEI Director and chief course writer) and I attended the Special Event Show in Chicago. Kylie was one of the guest speakers, but we spent much of our time attending education sessions and forging partnerships with others in the industry that benefit our students. Later this month Kylie will be in Las Vegas for Idea Factory doing the same. Although we are educators we believe that it is essential for us to be out there, absorbing knowledge and continuing to learn, so we can be good teachers to our students.
